Now you can recreate the legend that forever changed the face of motorsport and proved that four-wheel drive can dominate not only off-road but also on the most demanding special stages.
The Audi quattro (1980) comes in the form of a red brick model that you can display on your shelf to admire one of the greatest automotive icons of the 1980s.
Audi quattro ...and the Birth of a Legend
The Audi quattro made its debut on March 3, 1980, at the Geneva Motor Show. Work on the car began in February 1977. The inspiration came from winter testing of the Audi 200 and the Volkswagen Iltis. It became apparent during these tests that a slow-moving 4x4 off-roader handled difficult conditions better than a sporty sedan with a powerful engine. Consequently, engineers decided to adapt the four-wheel-drive system for use in a passenger car—and thus, the quattro concept was born.
The permanent four-wheel drive system, complete with differential locks, made the car incredibly effective in rallying. As early as 1981, the rally-spec quattro won its debut race—the Jänner Rally—ushering in an era of 4x4 dominance in rallying and forever cementing its place in motorsport history.
The Audi quattro is the car that ushered in a new era in rallying and established four-wheel drive as the standard in motorsport.
