Following on from the formidable Tiger I, the Tiger II featured even thicker armour as well as the powerful 88mm gun. The Tiger II was issued to heavy tank batallions of the Army. After making its debut on the Normandy battlefield, Early Tiger IIs proved unreliable, owing principally to leaking seals and gaskets, and an overburdened drive train originally intended for a lighter vehicle. Notwithstanding its initial reliability problems, the Tiger II was remarkably agile for such a heavy vehicle. The Tiger II was developed late in the war and built in relatively small numbers. The early version in this kit features the Krupp turret, of which just fifty were produced.
